Another Level

The time seems to be speeding up until my departure to Burundi!  And I have a lot on my plate as I move forward.

My classes in Dallas on Perspectives on the Worldwide Christian Movement have been sooo good.  I have had my heart truly broken for the lost of this world, especially for those who have never even heard yet about Jesus and the Good News He freely gives!  I have heard wonderful speakers who have been all over the world, and have read even more stories of missionaries past and present who are sharing Jesus and lives are being transformed.  One of the things they shared was that Dallas is full of refugees and many unreached people groups from all over the world, and what an incredible opportunity that provides!

I started wondering if there are any Burundian refugees in America.  Through Google, I was able to find two churches in the Dallas area that minister to refugees, some of them from Burundi.  I felt God’s leading and attended one this last weekend:  Oasis Global Church.  It was wonderful to meet other believers, and they took my desire to heart, getting me in touch with yet another church that has a Burundian family that has moved to Dallas recently.  I am currently working with meeting them next month with a translator.  What a blessing!

When I returned home from Dallas, I received a text from a Burundi woman in Dallas going to Pantego Church!  We are planning to meet April 8th.  I have no idea what adventure awaits!  I’ll keep ya posted.  🙂

Crossing Hurdles!

Oh what a joy to be getting so close to leaving!  I have been taking a class in Dallas once a week this semester called Perspectives on the Worldwide Christian Movement.  It has been thrilling to learn the Biblical foundation of Missions, History of Missions, and soon to learn of the Present of Missions!  I have learned a lot.  I have also met a lot of people who have traveled down the road I’m on, and am getting a lot of advice.

I’m currently reading:

When Helping Hurts: How to Alleviate Poverty Without Hurting the Poor . . . and Yourself
It is a fantastic read, even for working with people in America.  It helps to have some wisdom from others who have experience.
I am pleased to announce, I now have a place to send donations to!  I have joined with a service agency:

This agency is created by missionaries for missionaries, to help them when they are sent out by their local church.  They will handle the financial aspect and satisfy IRS requirements.  Whew!  That took a lot of research, prayer, phone calls, and mostly help from friends who know more than me!  Praise God, it’s coming together.  He has a way of doing that if He’s in it.  🙂
I’m still working on medical insurance, visa, and my plane ticket.  Jesse and Joy Johnson, my cousins who run Discovery School, will be on furlough this summer.  That means, I may be able to fly back with them when they return the end of August!  What a blessing that will be.
Doing all this with full-time work, prayer groups, helping with Bible study with 5th graders after school once a week, and even VBS during my spring break from school has worn me down some.  But God is the great refresher–He leads me beside quiet waters and restores my soul when I spend time with Him.
